Song S1 LoiseE: 'Stop Pretending (To Be Good)'
'Is about hypocrisy. It's when a person is dealing with someone who uses them for their own gain in a manipulative and toxic way.
In my experience, I had this person who I thought was a friend I could trust,
turns out they just ended up using me to get what they want, and chooses to play the victim.
This person is adored by so many people because they looked innocent and nice on the outside, and have no idea what they are really like on the inside.
I was told that this person gained everything by their own hard work without any help, and that there are just haters who are 'jealous' of their success.
I was too scared to speak up for myself back then and that's when this song was written.'
Song S2 LoiseE: 'This Is The Time'
'Is a song I wrote that follows after 'Stop Pretending (To Be Good)'. This song gives me the courage to face my fears.
It made me realize that I also have a voice, and that I shouldn't feel bad talking about my side of a story and what I was going through.
I wrote this song in hopes of reaching out to people who also struggle to speak up for themselves, especially when they've gone through something like a betrayal from someone who they thought they could trust. To remind them there's nothing wrong with trying to defend yourself.
Anyone else's opinions about you don't matter when you're with the people who truly care about you.'
Song S3 Kav Hudson: 'Two Brothers'
'This is a story of leaving the small town where you grew up to chase your future in the big city, being excited and happy about the opportunity,
only found out years later how difficult it was for the family to be separated from their sons. Through all the ups and downs, we always had each other’s back
and found ways to continue to be in each other’s lives.'
Song S4 Kav Hudson: 'Statue of Dave'
'I remember when Dom Sheed kicked the winning goal for the West Coast Eagles in 2018, and seeing the crowd go crazy with both excitement and distain. Very few people get an opportunity to do something so powerful and moving like that in their lives; our achievements, the art we make, or the influence we have might only affect a small group of people a tiny amount… that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to do great things with our lives, though.
I wrote this song as a reminder that the songs that I make probably change millions of peoples lives; they’re no 'Statue of David' as far as measuring influence, but my music is still creative and unique in its own way, and shows how I truly feel about things. Whatever happens, I’m very proud to share my own ‘Statue of Dave’ to the world.'
Song S5 Kav Hudson: 'Sing Me To The Water':
'There are times in life where I’ve found things to be difficult, but the only way through it is to have faith that you’ll come out the other side.
I was motivated to write this song while researching the story of the ANZACs who served our country at Gallipoli.
I’ll never know the true hardship those brave men endured, but it’s a story that always inspires me and brings about strong emotions of
sadness and admiration when I think of the incredible adversity they faced.'
Song S6 Matty Moore: From the upcoming album, 'Emotion in Stone' here is 'The Whole World Knows'
'It’s about the COVID period lockdowns the Govt policies that affected the whole world. It draws metaphors such as the sayings 'sleepless in Seattle'. Changed in the song to 'Seattle is now asleep'. It’s like the world really was seen for what it was. Exposed and vulnerable.'
Song S7 The Baker Street Boys: 'Echoes from the Underground'
' Echoes from the underground is a straight forward old school pop song. It's fun using all the opposites and playing on the words in the lyrics, well happy with them. 'Too Old too new , .... Too Old too young' etc . I wrote it with Roland Link who is an old time punk bass player from the Uk who now plays with a well known goth band . I like working with different people, it brings out huge differences in song writing.
Song S8 Rewind2Play: 'Saturday Night Comes Just Once a Week':
Accompanying note: 'Some people go to the bottle-O and stay home to watch Netflix. But that's not what Saturday Nights are for! Saturday nights are for having exuberant, exhilarating excercise on the dance floor to rock music. The video demonstrates the joys of dancing, with a recurring theme highlighting that enjoyment is doubled when dancing with a partner, using swing dancers at the Mustang Bar. The song is played at a tempo that makes you want to dance!'
Songs S12 and S13 by Von Spriggan
Growing up living in small towns in Western Australia, it can be hard to find like minded musicians to form a band. So I decided to take things into my own hands. Learning everything I could about all aspects of music creation. After years of trial and error and study. I finally started getting the sound I had been hearing in my head and Von Spriggan was born.
I had been making music for years, dedicated to the craft, but not to the marketing. I made music for myself and my friends and thought that was enough. Then it seemed, fate intervened. I was diagnosed with skin cancer. It was quite a serious one and was close to being past the point of surgery. Hit with this near death experience the 1st thing I thought, was that I regretted not trying to share my music with the world, that I didnt push it more. Here we are few years later. I have been non stop ever since, every free moment is dedicated to music, my entire life shifted to make the best music possible and it consumes me. I am constantly working, writing and practising. Know that when you listen to this music you are hearing someone trying to push themselves and give everything that they are to their art.
This isnt a hobby, this isn't just a way of life, It is my purpose for existing, and what I was put on this planet to do.
Song S14 Billy Neal: 'At 27':
'At 27 Is a Piano, Strings and Vocal song about the 27 Club, a subject of pop culture from the age many legends have died including Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse , Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin.
I was inspired by Pete Townshend's stripped back 'blue, red and grey' a uplifting song on just ukelele and vocal to write a real sad song about a life descending into chaos and death at 27, a totally different subject! I wanted the same vulnerable effect of mainly vocal cutting through minimal instruments so brought my violin friend over to play real strings instead of the synth once I'd written on the demo and I find the final result is a very different song from my normal compositions which tugs on the heart strings.'
Song S19 Charlie Alexander (of Waroona): 'Last ones standing':
'This song is about a road trip around New Zealand. Born of three key moments in our trip, a picnic in Waitomo caves by glow worm light, sitting on top of our car in the mountains of the Taupo pass taking in the star-shine after a near miss with a truck and swimming at Kerosene creek.'
Song S22 Charlie Alexander (of Waroona): 'Road Tripping':
'Road Tripping' is a story of a journey across Australia, Tasmania to WA with my family, chasing sunshine and new opportunities..'
Song S23. Zaidin van Zyl. 'Girl of your dreams'
My debut single, "The Girl Of Your Dreams," is a story about wanting to change in order to feel love and dreaming about becoming someone you're not just to grasp that love, knowing it can't fully be yours.
Song S24 The Catherine Wheels: 'WALLS ARE TALKING'
'A fascination for old houses. What has happened within these walls? People, long gone but the memories remain. What if those walls could talk. What stories would they tell?
Song S25 The Catherine Wheels: 'IT ALL FALLS DOWN'
'A warning to us all. Life does not always go according to plan. Things can come crashing down. Remember, we all have the ability to fly again and the resilience to get back on our feet.'
LoiseE has made another entry.
Song S26 Helpless 2.0
'This is just an evolved version of my debut single 'Helpless'. Before deciding to become a soloist, I experimented with different genres. Helpless was originally an alternative pop. Over the years, I realized that my love for punk and anything rock is what really fits me as an artist and that's when 'Helpless 2.0' was rewritten and re-recorded. Like a restart of my career. Now the song is about "when being too kind is your weakness". In my experience, I had a friend who used to only come to me when they need something, a favor or advice, etc. As a good friend, I would help this person out in any way that I can. The only thing is whenever something goes wrong, this person ends up blaming me for everything. They would tell people what 'I did' causing them to turn their backs on me.
Overall it's definitely a sad song, but this song also helps me remind myself that if I can go through problems like this then I can handle other challenges that life will throw at me.'
Song S28 Another song by Matthew Moore: 'Green Haired Girl' from the Heart of Stone Album:
'A song written in a time of need for a new friend as a promise to give her hope in life'
Song S33 Charlie Alexander
'6am': 'Story of loss and love. Of mornings spent in front the wood fired stove in my Granny’s kitchen on school holidays. '
Song S34 Tanya Stojanovic (feat David Wheeler & the Nanga Music Festival house band)
'Splinters (live at Nanga Music Festival)'
Artist's Note: 'While travelling through Thailand in my youth, I met a British amateur rapper named Yusef Samari. After a few days of connecting musically, and a particularly drunken night where a friend got tattooed with a pen, he came to me wide-eyed with some song lyrics racing incessantly through his mind - "Oh tattoo me just for kicks, do with me what you will, I promise I'll stay still as a picture..."
With my newly purchased travel guitar, we wrote 'Splinters' together. I had retreated to Thailand in part to to nurse a broken heart after ending a relationship with my first love. Writing this song helped to unravel the lingering anguish I didn't realise I'd been numbing, and make peace with my new reality - bleeding freely, but knowing I was alive.'
